Now what?

Since I last posted photos of an adventure, we've been on many.

In June I was in Boulder, Colorado. Yay for old friends!
Then flew to Copenhagen, where I worked for a week with an eccentric Swedish sculptor and film director turned corproate coach and trainer. He picked me up at the Helsingor train station in a dark blue Mercedes convertible. I felt like I was in a movie, or at least on a set. It was fun.

Then I flew to London for the weekend. Then to Genoa, where I worked for a week.

That's a lot of flying.

Then home... and Wendy, Leif, Kjell and Bryn visited from Colorado. We hosted a dinner at our favorite restaurant. 17 people were there. They're obviously not all in the photo.

Then we went to Florida, where Dad took us out for an afternoon of Sarasota by sea. We had cheeseburgers in paradise and Stefan and my nephew Wyatt got to drive a boat in the Intercoastal Waterway for the first time.

Then to Daytona where we saw 37 members of my family and Stefan had his 45th birthday. For that, I (sort-of) supprised him with the chance to drive 8 laps in a race car on the Daytona speedway: (Click on them to see them bigger, Mema!)

When we flew back to Switzerland, had dinner in Diessenhofen with Stefan's parents for their 50th wedding anniversary, drove around the country for a few days and came home. These guys were jumping out of an ancient covered bridge into the Rhein literally right outside our hotel window.

And then we were home. Alone. It's been a whirlwind.

We were both all set up to start new, long-term consulting gigs this month and they have fallen through. We were very excited about them and have been a little heartbroken.

Stefan noted last night that nothing I'm doing really lights me up...
So I've been trying to figure out what's next. And then I saw this guy.

Where the Hell is Matt? (2008) from Matthew Harding on Vimeo.

That lights me up! He was just travelling around and a friend said, "Hey, do that dance over there and I'll film you!" One thing led to the other and it's HUGE. Who knew?

The possibility of that happening for any one of us lights me up.

Planning my next trip to South Africa and that lights me up!

I am considering stopping the blog because the part of my life it was about -- moving alone to Europe, trying to manage the basics of that -- is over. I don't post so much any more and that is not fun for anyone.

Becky,

stopping your blog? yeah, it's hard to keep up with the effort required to make a blog run..

I agree that the "part" of your life that inspired the blog is over...

but you are still an expat.... always will be.. you will always be doing interesting things... and even as you settle further into a continental identity, the blog can also change along with you.

It can chronicle where your life is going, and keep those that care deeply about you, up on all your changes & adventures.

For example: I am closer to you, and have a better idea what you are doing, can keep up on your life, and I even know what Stefan looks like with that huge smile on his face as he wades into the florida surf..

none of that would be happening without this blog..

so please, do keep it up.. the reasons you write it will change, but keep writing..

(and I write this from the perspective of someone also considering shutting down their own blog, or just letting it change naturally)
