Mom wanted to go stay at the apartments at the Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio... and so we are living in the lap of luxury so grand and fine and outrageous it hardly seems real. George Clooney could come sauntering up any minute... and I'm not kidding, he lives here. I will download photos when I get home of the handpainted breakfast room, the views of Lake Como over the swimming pool, the dog lounging on the patio while Mom and I have Bellinis and caffe gelato... it is OTT (over the top).
And this is one of the many, many things I am grateful to my parents for.
I don't write often enough here about that I have wonderful parents. They are solid and generous and steadfast and funny and adventuresome and always full of new surprises. Since I was a teenager, we have visited some of the world's finest hotels, my parents and I have... we've been to The Breakers in Palm Beach and The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, we went to the Sherry Netherland on Central Park in New York City for my sixteenth birthday and have stopped in The Stanley in Estes Park, stayed at the fading Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs. Mom arranged for an outlandish room for my honeymoon at The Plaza in New York and at Christmas this year we were at the Schweizerhof in Grindelwald, Switzerland... the food was great.
Dad loves fine wine now, too, and I have tasted things I'd never have the opportunity to try without him being my father.
You know, we don't need expensive things to feel like we're living in abundance -- when we used to camp off our boat I felt that way, too. It sure is fun to live in the lap of luxury every now and then, though! May you each know what it's like to experience this... even the dog thinks it's grand!
We wish Dad was here, but we keep saying... "Oooh, Dad would love this strawberry tart! We'll have this one for him..." HA!
