Snow on palm

It snowed here this weekend! I took the train to Bellinzona to my friend Sara's house for a great Thanksgiving celebration Saturday. She's an American professor. Her husband grew up near here and after 15 years in the States they've moved back into the family fold to raise their kids here. It was great to be around a family (his parents, aunts, etc.) even if I couldn't really understand what they were talking about.

The food was absolutely fantastic, too, which was nice. I don't cook so much for myself and I miss good food. As Izzie said on Grey's Anatomy, "I'm a baker. I bake." One cannot live well on baked goods alone, but sometimes I forget.

Helen and I have been reading this book together. This week is all about choices, commitments and boundaries. I listed out choices I thought I'd made that were "good" (true to myself, turned out, I was pleased with, were rewarding, whatever) and others that weren't. I saw a very clear pattern. Choices about my professional life were good ones and choices about my personal life/men weren't. In fact, most of the choices about men (either to choose them or not to) left me with, "What was I thinking?!" Clearly, I wasn't. Something else was running the show. And so this week I'll think on what's running the show...

Hey sweetie! It's so great to hear that you had a warm wonderful place to go on Thanksgiving. That made me happy. I also love hearing that you're still charging through. I'm wondering what exercise you're on? With the funeral and the holiday and all the family in town I sort of took a week off but definitely am getting so so much from that dang book. What a fabulous gift you gave me!

thanksgiving is the best holiday, simply because of the inherent premise behind it..

and it seems as if you have found clear introspection this year.. that is good,

good food for the soul, as important as good food for the body..
