Michael Buble. This music so touches me, especially a song called "Home."
Another summer dayhas come and gone away, in Paris and Rome
but I want to go home... I miss you, you know...
Another aeroplane, another sunny place.
I'm lucky, I know, but I want to go home.
I'm just too far from where you are,
I want to come home.
The song is about somebody following his dream, which means some people get left behind... and that's a consequence of his moving about the world chasing his dreams. It's really gorgeous, and so true. You can hear the whole song on his Web site.
Don't think I'm homesick and that's what I'm saying... though maybe a little of that is here. I miss being around people who appreciate me, this environment is difficult. But there's more here than that. I talk about the idea of home in this blog a lot. I want one. I love this song, too; it's not all sad or longing or like there's something wrong. It reminds me of old friends I'll never see again (like Abel) and those I will, those I hope to, anyway (like you)... places I love... and singing jazz. There's nothing like it for me. I can't even describe it. I've got to find a way to have that in my life. I highly recommend this album. Michael Buble, It's Time.
Then there's David Wilcox, one of my all-time, life-altering favorites. This is an album with his wife, which I just think is cool. They took ancient, mystical poems, mostly Persian and set them to music. Here's one of my favorites. I got an e-mail a couple of days ago from my friend, Joe. It reminded me of this:Out beyond ideas
of wrongdoing and rightdoing
there is a field. I'll meet you there.
Out beyond ideas
of wrongdoing and rightdoing
there is a field. I'll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass,
The world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase
each other, doesn't make any sense.
